Moms Love Krav Maga: Everyday Strength, Real-World Confidence

At America’s Best Defense, you don’t have to be a lifelong athlete or a fitness fanatic to thrive on the mat. Our Krav Maga moms are living proof. They’re not here to prove anything to anyone—but they’re inspiring just the same.

They show up between work and school pick-up. They make time after long days. And they push themselves through each class, not just to break a sweat—but to build skills, confidence, and control in a world that doesn’t always offer those things easily.

Training With Purpose

For many moms, Krav Maga started as a leap of faith: something new, something intimidating, something they weren’t sure they could do. But once they began, it became clear this wasn’t just about learning to strike. It was about:

  • Regaining a sense of physical and mental power
  • Learning to protect themselves and their families
  • Building confidence that carries into everyday life
  • Strengthening relationships and building new ones

“It is the most rewarding and empowering exercise I’ve experienced in my adult life,” says Jill, who trains at ABD Mansfield. “We do so much for our kids—you deserve to do something for you.”

“I think [training has] given us a stronger bond as mother and daughter,” says Ellie from America’s Best Defense North Attleboro. “It’s something we share, and I’ve loved being able to train with her.”

For many of our Krav Maga moms, that purpose is having something that’s just for them.

“I need Krav as an outlet to stay sane,” says ABD North Attleboro student Leanne. “I have an incredibly demanding and stressful job and being able to kick and punch things in a sanctioned environment makes it easy to prioritize. It’s a small commitment for incredible gains.”

The dojo often provides not only an outlet, but it keeps them growing, pursuing goals outside of work and family life.

“Earning a first and a second degree black belt has been really special because it meant that I’ve finished big goals I set out to accomplish, and that I’ve represented my school and my instructors in a positive way,” says Angela from ABD Franklin. “Every time I tie on my belt, I feel a sense of pride and gratitude.”

Finding Strength in the Community

Krav Maga can be tough. It challenges you physically, mentally, and emotionally—but you never face those challenges alone. Our Krav moms have built a network of support, showing up for each other with encouragement, laughter, and shared sweat equity.

“It’s the community you never knew you needed,” says Emily King, an ABD Franklin student who earned her black belt in June 2024. “No one cares if you’re perfect. Everyone just wants to see you grow.”

“As a newer Krav student, my final orange belt class pushed me beyond what I thought I could do,” says Melanie, who is now a black belt at America’s Best Defense Mansfield. “But the support and encouragement from the women around me kept me going. That meant everything.”

These aren’t just training partners. They’re role models for their kids, and for each other.

No Experience Required

You don’t need to be fit, fast, or fearless to start Krav Maga. You just need a willingness to try. Every woman in our program started as a beginner—and every single one of them remembers exactly what that first class felt like.

What they’ll also tell you? It’s worth it.

“I’ve learned that I can push through fear, doubt, and fatigue. That I’m capable of more than I thought,” says Joni, a black belt at America’s Best Defense Shrewsbury. “It’s never too late to start something that makes you feel strong.”

ABD Franklin student Kathy Grim started training to improve her fitness and have fun with her husband Mike. She says her training journey has been filled with empowering moments where she accomplished something she “never thought she could.”

Take the First Step

Whether you’re looking to build confidence, improve your fitness, or just do something bold and new, Krav Maga could be the outlet you didn’t know you were missing.

“Give it a try—it will change your life,” says Angela from ABD Franklin. “My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner!”
